2 years 2 months 2 much
Emily....also known as Emmy Lou, Lou Lou, Lucy, Delilah, Lou Lou bird, Em, and Emmy....although a new nickname is never too far off.
As we approach 2 years and 2 months, realized the we have failed to update the latest.
E is talking up a storm in her "Minnie Mouse" voice. We laugh because her voice is definitely more girly. Some words....
Peas (please), tank yu, no, hep me (help me), pus (purse), dat one (that one), choo choo, Hun-tuh (Hunter), Bake (Blake), mommy, daddy, ou-side, up, down, car, my seat, dink (drink), mik (milk), toot, ew yucky, mon more (one more), bottle, hair, ba (bath), ball, minute, baby, baby kie (baby cry), cheese, memade (lemonade), hou (house), bee (all bugs), Bake did it- when tattling, calk (truck- imagine when she says big truck ;-) ), more, it down (sit down), pitty (pretty), pink, swing, my turn, I beat you, tee tee, luh you (love you), sah-ree (sorry), light, book, kitty cat, buckle la (buckle), doggie, money, monkey, shish (fish), bow, toy, my push, teet (treat), my keen (my clean)...... Names Sha Sha, Babd, Kistin, bake, shaith (Faith), Mimi, Bapa, cari, Kate, luke, seeya (Sarah), Morget (Morgan), Haleigh, Lyes (Lyles), Vanna (Savannah), Careline (Mary Caroline), Adet (Adam), .....
We still have to sit with her to get get to sleep. Most nights she still gets up and wanders to our bed in the middle of the night. She still sleeps with her bunny lovie but can do without.
She still loves to undress. It happens at least once a day. I can have just dressed her and there she goes for one minute and returns naked. Ugh! But the opposite is also true- she loves to dress up! She will put on anyone's clothes, shoes, headbands, etc. I have hilarious pictures of her cloning around with crazy things in her hair and wild outfits.
She started her first dance class today! She wore her first ballet shoes and did great!

She loves to play baby dolls, dress up, on the riding toys outside, with her kitchen, help in my kitchen, vacuum, do puzzles, read books, play with the neighbors....

1st of 1st
Today was a BIG day in the Jones household....Hunter's 1st day of 1st grade!
Last week, on Tuesday, we anxiously awaited the mailman's arrival. Luckily for us, we are early on his route, so at 11:30 as he walked up to our front door, I quickly intercepted and lo and behold- there was the big oversized envelope from school. We were thrilled when we saw that Hunter had Mrs. Moczygemba. He was a little overwhelmed at how to pronounce her name, but we have it down now. And she could not be any kinder, sweet-natured, and just easy with the kids. Icing on the cake is that she has a tremendous reputation for being a strong teacher, so we feel like we hit the lotto.
Since we already have icing on this cake, I guess the cherries on top would be the fact that we have quite a few precious friends that are in class with Hunter this year and we could not be more excited! Even better is that they mix up at specials (PE, art and music) and recess, so he has the potential to be with so many kids in his grade. We feel so blessed to have such a great group of kids for Hunter to go through school with.
The obligatory first day of school fireplace picture.

Walking down the street with Haleigh....

See him coming out the left side door- the day is over!

Tradition continues- Blake and Emily and I baked a "1" cake this year after a "k" cake from last year. It tasted better than it looks.

I'm a Woodridge kid now!

Not to be outdone- our mini Mule!

Remember the Alamo!
We had an impromptu little field trip downtown to visit a historical gem right in our own backyard, the Alamo. There's nothing quite like walking the streets of downtown to make you feel like a tourist yourself! We had a great time.
Here are the 3 posing in the courtyard.

Saying, "Ouch!"

Looking mighty small in front of the BIG Alamo.

Obligatory full shot :-)

Then, we were off to the to river to check it all out.

Walking to lunch at Casa Rio.

My people.....

Having great fun!

They even wanted to walk back thru the grounds again after lunch. ;-) Makes a mama proud!

Kick start to summer
I guess we are about to enter into the 3rd week of summer and it's been non-stop around here since it began.

Chris loaded the boys up merely minutes after the last bell rang on Hunter's last day of kindergarten and headed to Waco for a golf tournament. The boys had fun time with the grandparents and even a trip up to Fort Worth to see their cousins, watch some baseball and swim. They were in heaven!
In the meantime, Emily and I were not to be outdone, so we headed up to Austin to have a fun time with Kristin. We stopped at the San Marcos outlets on the way and did a little shopping- she is really a treat to do those types of things with. She will pick things up and say, "cute, cute."

We had a fun dinner at Matt's El Rancho and then went back, snuggled up in K's bed and caught up on girly shows....aka Pregnant in Heels.

The next morning we got up and walked the trail around Town Lake, took Em to Zilker Park to ride the train and then out to lunch at Galaxy Cafe- fun day.

Once the boys were home the next day, we hit the ground running. I had stayed in town because of an event I had helped to plan at church so we all went and played and enjoyed an afternoon with friends before our busy week started.

On Monday, Hunter loaded the bus to T Bar M for a week of day camp. He had a great time and on the last day his counselors praised his friendliness to other campers saying he was a friend to all. Awesome job sweet boy!

I was busy rehearsing for VBS chapel that week and so the days were fast and furious. Blake also took his first week of swim lessons and did great!

The second week of summer was VBS- we had a blast! I loved leading chapel again this year with my bestie.

The week left us wiped out so Saturday we ventured out to ride bikes and walk the SA river. The kids had a blast and we even saw this creature..... Yuck!

So now, I'm looking forward to a low-key and restful week of summer....if that's possible with this around the corner.....

A Letter to my Kindergarten Grad
Dear Hunter,
Today you finished Kindergarten. It was a special day. Special for so many reasons. You woke up early, as you always do, and had one of your favorite breakfasts. Then, as I was going to grab clothes for you, I realized that you were already there, picking out a nice pair of shorts and a shirt. You said you wanted to look nice today for your last day. (Makes a mama proud.) You certainly looked handsome as Daddy took you to school. I went to get a babysitter to come and look after Blake and Emily so I could join you all at your school for your "Author's Tea."
Each student in your class had written a story and illustrated it to read aloud to the parents. We all came into the library and as soon as I saw your class file in, I got teary-eyed. That would be the first of many times. This was a special ceremony that Mrs. Fenley does with her class, and one of the million things that make her so incredible. You read your story with confidence and were precious standing up there. We could not be more proud of you and all that you have learned and accomplished.
Then, you were presented with your Memory Book. Mrs. Fenley takes the time, effort and expense to create a memory book for each of her students. It is a work of art and a true treasure that I know you will grow to appreciate as time goes on. It is filled with pictures, your work and drawings, and memories of this great year.
You may not remember, but last August, I called Sha Sha while we were away for the weekend. I had been getting messages from friends that they knew who their teachers were. Sha Sha zipped over to our house to find the letter in the mail. After much anticipation, she excitedly announced, "Your child's teacher for 2011-2012 is Carol Fenley." There was LOTS of jumping up and down and joyous excitement on both ends of the phone line. All you could remember about Mrs. Fenley was that she had the snake in her room. Yes, yes she did.
From the start, you LOVED Howard, you LOVED Mrs. Fenley, you LOVED Ms. Felton and you LOVED Kindergarten. It has been a year of growth watching you learn to read, learn to write and just see what an incredibly and hard-working little guy you are. We are so proud of all that you have done and aspire to do. Even today, Mrs. Fenley said what she loves most about you is your sweet and precious spirit. You do have the most tender heart, and are always looking for people to give to. You are also amazingly creative and spent every Free Center time in arts and crafts creating something. Many times, I would be shocked that you could create something so outstanding from scraps and bits and pieces.
Hunter, as I write this, I am exhausted from an emotional day. Lots of crying... done by me. You see, I'm not really that fond of change. It's probably something I should work on. It's not that I don't want to see what is to come, but I think I see what a tremendous year this has been...to have a school that exceeds your expectations (and you just stay for Kinder and then move on), to have a teacher and an assistant teacher who LOVE your child so dearly, to have a teacher and assistant teacher that LOVE Jesus too (most awesome part of all), to have new and old friends alike to walk this journey alongside of each other....There are so many things I will miss about this year- purely the sweetness of kindergarten too. Like how you were SO excited to see me in your classroom on my volunteer days, you loved when we came to lunch with you, you wanted to see me up there every chance I had, you wanted me to be there for all of the big event days (which really you needn't beg...I'm a sucker for volunteering), and just watching how hard you pushed yourself in the reading competition....there is just nothing sweeter than walking with you through your FIRST real year of school.
We love you, Hunter. We are so proud of you. Not because of what you do, but because of who you are and who you are growing into. You are precious and you are more than we could ever imagine. God is doing great things with you and we are so blessed to be your mom and dad.
Love you,
Mom

All I ever really needed to know....
I learned in KINDERGARTEN.
Tomorrow, May 31, 2012- our sweet Hunter will finish his first year of school. One down, 12 to go. It certainly went fast, we were incredibly blessed to have a teacher and an assistant teacher who loved him so much, who taught him so much and who made school such a special and happy place to be. Hunter never missed a day for sickness- only once in the fall because the rest of the family had fallen prey to the stomach bug and I was certain he would be the next to go (he wasn't), and in the spring he missed 4 days for vacation- 2 for skiing and 2 for the beach. He always was happy going to school, loved accolades from school, tried so hard to please his teachers, learned to tie his shoes, rode in a booster, learned how to read, was the top math student in his class and loves Science, became a good little writer and enjoys writing stories and coloring, spent every "Free Center" time doing arts and crafts, played on a soccer team (The Bruisers) and a tball team (The Red Sox), bought lunch many times in the cafeteria, made it on the bulletin board for Race to Read, rode in a school bus for the first time going to several field trips, loved being on the announcements, lost 5 teeth, grew lots and lots, has become so much more independent, works on the computer and ipad with incredible skill......the list goes on and on.
Mrs. Fenley was and is an amazing teacher. We will miss her so much as we make the transition up to Woodridge.
